St. Paul, MN. June 8-9, 2013-In case you missed out on the fun at the 2013 Northern Spark Art Fest, don’t worry, I have all the official photos to back up what you missed. I was there. I got soaked to the bone and had my first official all-nighter since the days of Halo One and Mountain Dew, and shitty weed for that matter-8th Grade.
This year Northern Spark was somewhat inconveniently located in St. Paul, what seemed like a thousand miles from SE Minneapolis (where I currently reside). Hundreds of artists and critics poured out into the wee hours of the night to get their fix of what is hip, trendy, and cool, and what isn’t (the fucking rain, and trash-bag rainwear).
Aside from art exhibits-what I presume were mostly performance pieces, and the abstract, there was a literal (yet legal) arson of some house that resembled Gram-Crackers painted white. The latter piece almost didn’t happen because of weather, drats!
However, things went off mostly without a hitch, aside from the shit-weather, being located in St. Paul, and the lack of sleep.
I suggest a boat ride up the Mississippi.
Aside from that, I found 3 boxes with a few slices of uneaten pizza in them and indulged, which helped me to regain my strength to tackle the rest of the night. By daybreak I found myself traveling up the Mississippi River in a Steamboat reading the Ippississim text, work in progress (amazing, get your hands on it) and listening to a group of kids busking out some impressive tunes. This was nostalgic.
Here is my photo journal of Northern Spark 2013:
